Grey Owl “Some things are Not for Sale”

Archibald Stansfeld Belaney, Wa-sha-quon-asin, or Grey Owl from the Ojibwe.
Although english, he spent the latter years of his life with Iroquois Gertrude Bernard (whom he later called Anahareo) under the guise of Grey Owl, working for the Canadian Parks.
In his articles, books, and films he promoted the idea of environmentalism and nature conservation. In 1931, He wrote several articles for the Canadian Forestry Association (CFA) publication Forests and Outdoors
His life, although it was somewhat romanticised was made into the film by Richard Attenborough (who had seen Grey Owl on his visit to England in 1935-1937) Pierce Brosnan does a very honest portrait of the complex man… who was ahead of his time in his campaigning for the stopping of the rape of our mother earth for financial greed and gain by a minority ruling class.
Now, more than ever his words that some things are not for sale, has an ominous ring like that of the bell that tolls for humanity as it now stands at the abyss.
May we follow his lead , be it more than 70 years later by confirming that we are the children of this earth, not the lords of it, and act accordingly.

but I ask you this. …
but I ask you this…..why is it that everything has to be a competition ?
Why can’t people just let people be? Why do people always feel they have to prove they are superior to others in order to feel good about themselves? Why can’t people just live and let others live. When you lay down to die, if you look back at your life & define your success as having conquered those you deem beneath you, will that make you feel peaceful? Or will you close your eyes in peace having respected all life

    To Crawford…. You …
To Crawford…. You know the Indians were not offered a ‘choice’ whether or not to sell their land. Have you really read about this? I am white, and I think that walkingbear is not racist at all–he clearly says SOME whites–he does not blame all white people. Supremacy is also a matter of how you ‘define’ it. If you define supremacy as having money and power, then maybe the whites have won. If you define supremacy as spirituality, then I have a feeling the Indians will win.

  6. White supermacy huh …
White supermacy huh? I guess you can say that. But how did the whole Indian wars end? The Indians sold themselves to the govt for a small piece of land and a few dollars a month to buy liquor with. Driving through the reservations these days is almost sad. Drunk men passed out on the corners, ditry little kids running around. Its disgusting to see what these ppl have become. So u want to call us supreme? Go ahead. We prove it everyday.

  7. Not racist remarks, …
Not racist remarks, just putting information out about how the control of the world has been taken by the hands of a few elitist minded people (who happen to be of the white race) Yes all are capable of crimes against humanity, and each colour, Red, Black, Yellow and White are not alone in being culpable.
But the history of the conquest of the americas is basically a question of “white” supremacists against the “red” aboriginals.
( See also Australian, African and Indian colonialism.)

  8. Didnt you say at …
Didnt you say at the top of the page that you dont like racist remarks? Yet about half way down you blame a few psychopathic wihites for all the problems we are having. So which is it bear? I know it wasnt all whites who have made the world the way it is. Every race had a hand in it.

  9. Finally, with any …
Finally, with any luck that is about to change, because now we finally have seen behind the curtain and the emperor is stark bollock naked.
Time to take heed of the words of Archie Grey Owl

  10. If I was being …
If I was being blunt , I would say that the problems in the world today are the cause of over 2000 years of a very small number psychopathic elitist white males hijacking a beautiful world and destroying all that stood in their way, for the ultimate control of all the resources and benefits, and to enslave and manipulate all the rest of us for their own benefit.
And they ‘ve done a good job of it so far, because the majority do nothing to stop them (me included), out of fear of security.

  11. No not my account.. …
No not my account…. Ill have a look to see what has happened to them.
Unfortunately the “mainly white empire builders” are culpable for devastating vast areas of the “3rd” world..i.e. very other part that is “non white” for their own gain.
Italy, Spain and the Catholic Empire wiped out huge numbers of people in the name of religion… Women in their millions were tortured and murdered in the name of witches… and they were white also.

  12. if it was from the …
if it was from the heart-try to access
his,or her account,(or was it yours?) you dont make
a heart felt statement then cut and run,
    as mutch greed there
may be with whites you have more
lust in other races for power, whitch races commit
the most crime murders against others?
black and hispanic that is a fact,
(but thats whites fault also) lol…..

  13. I have a real …
I have a real problem with racist remarks, blaming colours of skin because of the state of the world. There are Four Directions of Humanity, Red, Yellow, Black and White.

Some of the white race have been guilty for a large amount of the “mass greed” and taking the “wasichu” attitude.
It is those in authority we have to look to removing, not because of the colour of their skin but because they are evil and want to rule the rest of us.
I think Researchx’s comment was from the heart to be true.

  14. what a maggot,make …
    what a maggot,make a racist statement
    then close your account (researchX)
“WE WHITES” i think we ALL know your not, if there was no rule
you maggots would kill each other,
that would be great for the rest of us
who would enjoy the rule of peace…..
so yes i guess you are rite to a certain
    point,lol……

  15. But the white world …
But the white world which rules the Earth does not listen. We whites just want profit..profit…profit… We don’t care how many familes are out in the street as long as some banker lives in a 3 story house. Plant trees people. Pecans, Walnut, Peach, Pear, Apple, etc..etc. Protect the bear and wolf and protect the streams, rivers and oceans. No more 30 mile wide dead zones in the ocean. No more people. Rise up. We all have to be responsible in the end.

  16. Yes, and now that a …
Yes, and now that a recent study indicates that most children can name 1000 corporate logos but only 10 species of fauna and flora, the need to put these ruthless corporations on ice is becoming more and more evident.

  17. If anyone hasn’t, I …
If anyone hasn’t, I recommend reading the literature of Grey Owl. His works, such as The Men of the Last Frontier and Pilgrims of the Wild, are true nature literature classics; touching portraits in penstrokes of the beauty and necessity of Nature.
“The face of Nature as it was since the Beginning; all creation down the eons of unmeasured time, brooding in ineffable calm, infinite majesty, and a breathless and unutterable silence.”
    - Archie Grey Owl

Indeed. I lived for a time in Sudbury and made my way throughout the wilderness of that region frequently. Lake Temagami and all the surroundings of North Bay in general remain comfortably in my heart.

  20. Thank you, yes the …
Thank you, yes the real star is the “wilderness” that is Lake Temagami, Bear Island and North Bay Ontario.
Lets pray it stays that way.

  21. Awesome and …
Awesome and beautiful movie by a great director Richard Attenborough and an underrated actor Pierce Brosnan. Lots of interesting and beautiful scenes of Canada too.

  22. What is strange to …
What is strange to me is he went to the wild..and his woman went city fied looking..Looks messed up..why aren’t they on the same level..or maybe they are..she joined his white man ways..I quess it’s beautiful on the same level..togather as one* The point he’s making should be heard by many.

This is a wonderful video. My aunt was Native American. I have to admit it brought some tears to my eyes. There should of been more speeches. Who had the right to do what they did. Thank you so very much for posting this

  25. I think it is …
I think it is remarkable that this speech was given at this era of society. Very good to see that awareness was raised then. With this speech, people had to have had a heart for our Earth. This is a moving speech and am glad this was posted. Kudos!
