How to contribute articles to real life newspapers?

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

I own a website design firm and would like to get some publicity by writing informational technology articles for local newspapers in small towns across North America.

Is there a list of small local newspaper publications?

How should I go about approaching editors to get my articles publisheds?

Any feedback or ideas welcome.

It’s very difficult to sell tech services online so I have to resort to good old fashioned bricks and mortar strategies!

Thanks!

There’s thousands of small city newspapers in the country, a map would be good to locate these cities, then just do a search for their newspaper, pull it up online and contact them concerning your articles.

Can I include news articles in my zine?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Can I include previously published news articles in my zine (which is a self-published, non-commercial publication) so long as I cite and credit the original newspaper? Or do I have to re-tell the news stories in my own words? I don’t want to run into a copyright snag.

i would say that, if you cited and credited the original author, you should be fine, but you might want to add your own little blurb explaining the article.

if you are still hesitant, it’s definitely safer to re-tell it in your own words.

hope this helps. :)

What is your advice on this publication?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

i live in small town in michoacan mexico and im thinking of starting a small publication, that would cover sports, local businesses, entertainment, general news, and have classified ads. houses, cars, an other merchandise,

the publication would be free but i would charge accordingly for the publications, it would be 2 times per month, the strong point would be allowing everybody to place an ad for 5 articles, so that people can buy, trade, and exchange merchandise.

what advice would you give me and what is your opinion on this publication.

thanks

Honestly: Assuming that the small population will not be enough to "float the boat", I personally would go ahead and do this, but only with a strong online component which makes the services super-regional, extending to pretty much everywhere in Mexico via the web. Maybe even consider including a little trading section? There is a precedent here in New Zealand which may give you some inspiration (kind of a "Mini-E-Bay"). It’s called trademe.co.nz , maybe take a look to see if that might be worth emulating?
Good luck with your project, I think it’s a good idea.

Do you know if which publication is weightier to enrich my CV? a refereed article or peer-reviewed one?

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Don’t tell me that there is no difference in terms of the distinctive weights they carry because, I think there is.

By ‘refereed’, do you mean you’re the one doing the peer-review for someone else? That’s the only context I’ve heard it used in. Definitely having a peer-reviewed article of your own caries more weight – I’m not even sure how you would add ‘referee for some journal’ on your CV. Not to mention I wasn’t asked to be a referee until I already had a publication in the journal.

I want to write news and articles which will be best interest for all the people. What are the procedure?

how to write articles to national and international standered?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

i want to know how to write article and publish in national and international standered journels and publications or news papers. will you please tell me the requirement for publishing my articles in national and international journels, magazines , reputed news papers etc?

Talk to your teachers, professors, colleagues about the leading journals in your field

Start doing some sample reading in those journals to gauge the kinds of topics and the standard of writing current in them.

Discover what problems, issues have not been explored enough, still subject to error and misunderstanding.
That’s where you’ll find your niche to produce publishable articles.

If you’re a graduate student, consider your best papers, ask professors for critiques with a view to revision and publication.

I kept this comment until the end because I didn’t want to seem unkind or nitpicky, but it was one of the first things that caught my attention : you need to improve your spelling ("standerd" "journels"), at least by using your spellcheck. Spelling and other mechanics will be basic features that you must get right to get past the editor’s reject file.
Don’t neglect them.
