My Chances of getting into medical school?

I have just finished my first year of college at a Texas university (in which I will not disclose). I am a premed major with a GPA of 3.79 and I have 58 college credits (almost a junior). I am planning to do research within the field of virology and neurobiology. If I am able to get the most out of my research I am looking at probably two-three publications before I graduate with my bachelor’s degree. I am so driven to pursue my dreams of becoming a physician. What are my chances of getting into medical schools here in Texas….please if anyone has some insight to this question. Give me your take. Thank You.

Good luck with getting 2-3 publications. Shoot for one, hope for more. If you’re starting now I’d say you have a decent shot of being listed as a co-author in the next couple years. Ideally, you’ll get it before you apply at the end of your Junior year. Keep your GPA up, and you should be fine in Texas (great place to apply to medical school).
