Some points on Peer Review, Part 1
Danmill23 suggested that I talk a bit about peer review in the scientific publication process. Here is a link to an overview of submission: http://esapubs.org/esapubs/AuthorInstructions.htm with information about how their review process works.

You did not cite any authoritative source in your reply.
You are the authority? I think not.
I reject that and reiterate: peer review is not part of the scientific method.
It is separate and distinct.

@ianmac2010 Note I qualified, modern scientific method – it is.
I got this idea somewhere during the process of actually doing scientific research and publishing scientific papers. Not sure where or why you can call bollocks on this.
At 0:18 you claim …
At 0:18 you claim that peer review is one of the most important parts of the scientific method.
Bollocks!
Peer review is not even part of the “scientific method”.
Where did you get the idea that it was?

great vid, …
great vid, hopefully enough people will see this and understand that peer review is a positive thing to have.
I would disagree that if people don’t see your science it doesn’t exist though. The military scientists could do lots of great research that they cannot publish, it still exists.
Excellent video.

Excellent video.
Please check out my latest video on a palaeontologist who flaunts the peer review process by having enough money to fund his own journal. I would love your input.

Excellent video. I think we need more of this. There are far too many people, myself included, that don’t understand the rigorous process of peer review in science. I’ve been quite disappointed with some of the bullshit that people have passed on to me in order to make some pretty bold claims. With just a little research, you often find that the studies they show you are complete or they are taking things completely out of context and twisting it into some crazy shit.

I’ve been meaning to do a video on peer review for months, but I’ve never gone through it (except for the minimal in-company review). Very grateful to you for doing this! It’s been needed for a long time! Kudos to DanMill for asking and you for delivering!

@LithodidMan Yeah, …
@LithodidMan Yeah, the great thing about the modern method, taken all together, is that frauds don’t stand up. Which is why global warming deniers have to have a vast inter-disciplinary conspiracy to support their ideas – it just won’t fly to falsify research.
I just could see some anti-science person jumping on that and saying, “see? We have to trust the researchers!” Well, yes and no. If their research is bad, it’ll be discredited.
Excellent point – I …
Excellent point – I didn’t talk about replication in this version of this video but probably should have.
My point about trust was me attempting to get across the idea that because of peer review we can assume that the data collection and reporting is accurate. I probably should have emphasized that this is really trust in the PR process and why it is important that process be under scrutiny.
Great video. This …
Great video. This is one of the most misunderstood and distorted elements in the scientific process – most often by people who make claims about “censored” research.
I would like to make a clarification: it’s not that we “trust” the scientist to know what he’s doing and accurately report it – the scientist has an interest in doing so, because a single publication won’t make the work – it has to be extensively replicated, which is why replication is so important, too.
I think most of my …
I think most of my letters are round filed.
Even love letters. I’ve had love letters returned to me because they were not filed in triplicate with accompanying floppy 5.25 disks.
So, that’s lame. Are you still in contact with anti-porn-blog?
